What the drivers said
Joerg Mueller: "I got lucky not to get involved with the accident in the first corner, as I went up the inside and then I was second. Robert (Huff) pushed very hard and I could not keep up with his pace, I was worried about the tyres and so tried to save them a little bit. I am sorry for him, but thanks to his problems I won."
Alain Menu (pictured): "In the first race I had a better exit out of Paddock Hill than Farfus and I had a run on him going up the inside, but for some reason he tried to shut the door, so it ended in tears for both of us. I was fourth then, but near the end I was told about my team-mates' problems with tyres. Therefore, I lifted off and my goal was then to get pole position for race two. Porteiro had a better start, but then on the next lap I had a good run into turn 1 on the inside, and from then on tried not to make a mistake."
Yvan Muller: "I didn't expect to be so far up on the grid, but it was still very tough. I got lucky in the first race to avoid all the problems. In the second race we were too slow to be on the podium. I had a good fight with Andy (Priaulx) but I made a small mistake and lost a lot of positions. Now I'm leading the championship, but it is very close."
Felix Porteiro: "Alain Menu was a lot quicker than me as he was second in qualifying and I was fifteenth, but then in the race the difference was a lot closer. The team worked very hard today, in warm up and the race they improved the car. I never thought that I would finish on the podium so I am very pleased as I took a podium even though my pace was not that good."
Andy Priaulx: "The first race was a reminder of Estoril all over again, I just cannot seem to find a way past Yvan (Muller) at the moment. I was pretty happy with my result, we had a great warm up, the car had the pace, but I was limited by Yvan's mid corner speed and couldn't make any head way. A podium was great. Unfortunately race two was disappointing, but these things happen, you cannot expect to win every race."
Alessandro Zanardi: "It was a fantastic weekend for us in terms of satisfaction. We were struggling at the beginning but we changed a great deal in terms of set up, and finally we found a solution that seemed to work. We changed it a little more for each session and for the race we hit jackpot. We were a little lucky with the way the events turned out, but we could clearly keep up with the other cars."
Stefano D'Aste: "I am very happy as the team did a great job and the car was very fast. In the first race I started in the best way and won. Then in the second race it was hard at the re-start with the safety car because I had Rydell behind me and I was convinced he was faster than me. I want to dedicate these wins to my boss' mother who left this world last week."
